What gateway should I have bought, and what is the best option to add IR controls

Ed Thompson Apr 13, 2013 09:08PM EDT

I purchased the iTach WF2IR and it seems that I am 1 IR control short for my initial requirements.
I have a Samsung TV, a Samsung BluRay, A Dish TV Receiver, an Onkyo Integra Receiver and an Apple TV. Everything except the Onkyo needs IR control. Because the iTach has only 3 IR ports and I have 4 devices requiring IR control, I have left the BluRay off the remote network right now.

What should I have bought in the first place, and what can I buy to give me an additional 4 IR controls so I can add some other legacy equipment (laser disc, and maybe another receiver) that does not require a rack mount type IR gateway?

Hi Ed,

Onkyo, 2012 and newer models, has ability to control other devices like BD players over HDMI. Have you tried that? They are commands that start with RIHD. You would need to enable HDMI-CEC (HDMI NET I think on Samsung Bd player). You also would need to enable HDMI control in the Onkyo itself by going into Setup menu, then 7.Hardware Setup then 3.HDMI then set HDMI Control to ON.

If this is not an option, you can use a DUAL IR emitter on any of the IR ports to control 2 pieces of equipment with the same IR port.

Another option is to use the IR Blaster on IR port 3. IT Blaster came with your iTach. This should work if you have your equipment clustered together. Like Dish box sitting on top of the BD player or something like that.

You would need two pieces of hardware.

One IP or WF toSL for the CAM device and one IR IP to WF toIR for the SMS3.
